I've been involved in the writing industry for a couple years now, and as such, I am always looking for ways to promote books. One of the most popular methods is giving out bookmarks, postcards, and business cards relating to an author's books. Even more recently, I've noticed that a lot of authors are making "trailers" for their books. The goal for a writer is not just to advertise their book, but to create a relationship with their readers in the same way that we bookkeepers try to create personal relationships with our customers. Our goals are to foster relationships that will encourage them to feel comfortable with us and thus allow us to deal with their most personal issue of all - money. Yet, it had never occurred to me to create a trailer for our businesses until I saw Tina Gosnold, owner and certified bookkeeper for Set Free Bookkeeping in Stanwood, WA. When I saw her video with its personal touches, the possibilities exploded in my mind. Trailers and Youtube are being used for all types of businesses today - from the entertainment industry to the corporate world - and the smart thing to do would be to hop on the band wagon now before everyone is literally doing it.
