Erica T. Barton is an avid traveler, busy blogger, lazy bookkeeper, virtual entrepreneur, savvy speaker, and an extreme researcher. Below, you can find a list of her skills and experience:
Erica has traveled to 15 countries and 13 states in her life. While in college, she studied for a year at the American College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. Her desired courses of study: Irish men, Guinness and “just enough Gaelic to get by.” Her actual course of study: Irish Literature, Irish History, and Irish Men. (“1 out of 3 ain’t bad!”) When Erica wasn’t studying or hanging with her friends, she was traveling Europe on a Student’s Budget.
Erica blogs about small business and bookkeeping at her blog, OneHourBookkeeper.com. At her travel blog (BabiesAndBaggage.com), she blogs about traveling with kids and finding the best luxury travel deals. She also blogs about her favorite Spy Shows and movies at her blog WannabeSpyClub.com.
Erica also writes historical romance and mainstream novels with romantic comedy elements. She has been an active member of RWA and the Los Angeles Romance Authors (LARA) since 2008. Her first romance novel, “The Wannabe Spy Club” is set to release in October of 2011.
Erica has been in bookkeeping since 1998 and began her own virtual business specializing in bookkeeping, office administration, and market financial feasibility research in 2002. Erica “hates Bookkeeping and yet she blogs about it” at OneHourBookkeeper.com. She started the website because she saw too many small business owners get robbed by Embezzling Bookkeepers. Teaching Small Business Owners how to prevent financial fraud and increase profits is a topic that is close to her heart.
One of her first clients was JB Research Company, a company that specializes in Market and Financial Feasibility. For that company, Erica took on the role of Research Assistant to the Company’s President. Working with that client opened doors to a much more interesting world as she completed research for Fortune 500 Companies such as Kellogg’s, Paramount, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the Staples Center, Starbucks, and many others. It allowed her access to confidential information that very few people ever get to see and “to see behind the curtain” of each of those companies.
In addition, she’s done research for many smaller companies, from non-profits to shopping centers. She’s also reviewed thousands of websites from all over the world under the guise of ‘research.’
“When I began working with JB Research Company, I was told that ‘if I paid attention, I would become one of the country’s biggest experts on Market and Financial Feasibility Research’, and I took those words to heart. The things I know amazes even me.”
Over the years, she has also done secret shopping for banks, colleges, and various retail stores. She has been a top sales associate at companies like Carl’s Jr., Sears, JCPenney, (in college) and for Mary Kay Cosmetics. By being a bookkeeper for restaurants, resorts, construction companies, and various other businesses, she has seen a variety of business models “from the inside” and been able to make suggestions accordingly.
In 2010, Erica decided to “give it all up” and travel around the world with her family. Selling her house, she put everything into storage and took off for a six month adventure-of-a-lifetime. As she traveled, she finally faced the fact that while bookkeeping was never her passion, writing was. Since her bookkeeping blog was making a decent income, she decided to change her focus to what she truly loves and write full time. She also does workshops for others to improve and make money with their blogs and has added Internet Marketing Services to her portfolio.
